On July 16-24, 2018, VHATTC-UMP in collaboration with the Faculty of Public Health - University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City and Colombo Plan organized the 8-days Walk-through Training on Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC) focusing on addiction treatment.
The training workshop took place continuously for 8 days with the partcipation of more than 40 trainees who are trainers from the institutes, universities, non-governmental organizations and some MMT clinics in the city.
On the opening day, the workshop was honored to welcome Ms. Phan Kieu Thu, Secretary General of Colombo Plan, Former Vietnamese ambassador to Sri Lanka and Maldives to give speech before the course. According to Ms. Thu, the relationship and cooperation with universities is one of the priorities for sustainable development of Colombo Plan in general and the Drug Advisory Program (DAP) in particular. Accordingly, the MOU with University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City is one of the most prominent activities towards this goal.
The curriculum is provided by the Colombo Plan international trainers. The training provided basic knowledge related to the substance abuse treatment. Those who completed full series of 8 courses will be qualified to take an internal exam hosted by the ICCE (International Center for Credentialing and Education of Addiction Professionals). Through 8 days of training, trainees have been instructed the the basics in all eight curricula equivalent to 8 core curriculum areas throughout the Colombo Plan's UTC, including:
UTC 1: Physiology and Pharmacology for Addiction Professionals
UTC 2: Treatment for Substance Use Disorders–The Continuum of Care for Addiction Professionals
UTC 3: Common Co-occurring Mental and Medical Disorders- An Overview for Addiction Professionals
UTC 4: Basic Counselling Skills for Addiction Professionals
UTC 5: Screening, Intake, Assessment, Treatment Planning and Documentation for Addiction Professionals
UTC 6: Case Management for Addiction Professionals
UTC 7: Crisis Intervention for Addiction Professionals
UTC 8: Ethics for Addiction Professionals
The training was a success, Partcipants came back home with many useful knowledge and memorable memories between with other people and trainers.
