On January 17th, 18th, 19th 2017, VHATTC-UMP cooperated with UNODC Vietnam to organize a Training Workshop on Gender Mainstreaming Monitoring and Evaluation in HIV Services for WUDs, following a training on meeting the needs of injecting drug users held in October, 2017.

The training attracted the participation of nearly 30 participants from eight provinces (HCM, Hanoi, Binh Thuan, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Can Tho, Binh Duong and Long An), including program supervisors, project managers, university lecturers, key affected population leaders.

The training was openned by speeches from Dr. Hoang Dinh Canh, Deputy Director Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control (VAAC), MOH, Assoc. Prof. Do Van Dung - Vice Rector of HCMC University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Mr. Riku Lehtovuori, Adviser Monitoring & Evaluation and Focal Point HIV/AIDS, UNODC.

According to Mr. Riku Lehtovuori, this training series act as a key focus of UNODC's developing and enhancing efforts relating to gender mainstreaming in several countries . M&E not only helps stakeholders implement the program more effectively in general but are also extremely useful for work planning, problem solving and policy advocacy.

The seminar ended successfully as ideas about M&E and gender mainstreaming M&E were explained and clarfied by Ms. Mona Sheik Mahmud - UNODC Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, bringing new perspectives on what most partcipants are dealing with . I’s our hope that after the training, partcipants will equip themselves with the necessary and useful M&E information to advise, plan and orient their activities. Monitoring and evaluation programs focus on Gender mainstreaming will result in more comprehensive and practical services for women who use drugs, who have not received adequate attention from service providers and the community.
